What is ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential)?
In the world that we live in, there is a continuous exchange of electrons that takes place between substances in the air, in the earth, in water, and in our bodies. This phenomenon is known as ion exchange.
In an effort to reach a state of stability, substances that are lacking electrons are desperately seeking out electrons wherever they can : these substances are referred to as Oxidizing Agents – which is Bad .(Think beggars on the street begging for money, they are lacking money). We also know them by the name Free Radical.
On the contrary, substances which have a surplus of electrons are capable of donating their extra electrons: these substances are referred to as Anti-Oxidizing Agents – which is Good. (Think kind persons who donate money to the beggars, they have surplus of money). We also know them by the name Anti-Oxidant.
Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), is a measurement that indicates the degree to which a substance is capable of Oxidizing or Anti-Oxidizing another substance. ORP is measured in millivolts (mv) using an ORP meter.
- A positive ORP reading indicates that a substance is an Oxidizing Agent – Bad. The higher the reading, the worse it is.
- A negative ORP reading indicates that a substance is a Anti-Oxidizing agent – Good. The lower the reading, the better it is.
Most types of water, including tap water and bottled water, are oxidizing agents as their ORP value is positive.
Kangen Water® is an anti-oxidizing agent, as it has a negative ORP value and it is able to donate extra electrons to neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals on the body.
Water Molecules gather together in groups known as “clusters”. In tap water, these groups are normally 15 – 20 molecules, which are called “macro-clusters” and can only be absorbed into parts of the body where the entire cluster of molecules will fit. During the ionization process, electricity surges through the water, disrupting the clusters and breaking them into smaller groups, normally 4 – 6 molecules, called “micro-clusters“
These smaller groupings of water molecules are more easily taken in by the body, providing superior hydration and absorption.
